I love my daddy. We had so much fun together at the Dubai Children’s Park First, we tried to watch a dolphin show. But the music was too loud and there were lots of bright lights, so my mama took me for a walk. Then my daddy came and we ate ice cream and played in the park. It was so fun. My daddy can make me laugh more than anyone else. He is so funny and silly too.

While ali had some work to do in Dubai a week and a half ago, we were able to tag along. We stayed in the Dusit Residence in the Dubai Marina. The Dusit was a furnished residence, larger than our own apartment in Cairo. We couldn’t even hear each other from one room to the other! The fine dining table was set and we were worried we might break something! I sat on the couch and looking around couldn’t believe we were there.
The job perks are nice. But for me, it’s those moments I battle between thinking the long hours while ali works and I’m putting Sebastian to bed without a kiss from his daddy are worth it for a dip into a lifestyle like this, and thinking I’m glad we have our humble abode and I wish Sebastian’s daddy could come home to give him his bath every night of the week.
That said, we enjoyed our stint in Dubai and the view from the 32nd floor was stunning. I never knew being so high up made the world outside so quiet. Even surrounded by new buildings being worked on, we couldn’t hear the jack hammer or experience the dust. It was like we were a world away. Separated from reality. But I think that Dubai is a little bit like that…

More photos here. Leave a comment for the guest pass to see the photos with Sebastian and I have posted it on facebook as always. I will be posting more photos and snipits of our trip. I wanted to post while we were there but didn’t have access to flickr as it is a blocked site in the UAE.
There aren’t many green, play spaces here in Cairo. Which is unfortuntate, especially as winter is approaching and it’s cool enough to spend time outside after a long, hot summer. But we recently joined a club – paid for by the company – which allows us access to some very nice play spaces for both Ali (basketball) and Sebastian (swings!). I like the swings too, although we did get told off because the swings are for the kiddos, but I convinced them it was ok for me and Sebastian.
Below are some pictures Ali took with his blackberry while we were out yesterday afternoon. Fun times. Sebastian was besotted with a little girl over on the swings, which is why he’s not looking at the camera in most of the photos!

Photo essay ONE
We spent two months in Michigan at my mom’s. It’s gorgeous, peaceful and the air is clean. Thanks Mom and Jerry for taking such good care of us!
This is the view from the field out back, the house is hiding behind the barn. The naked* tree to the right was cut down but the township. I’m so glad I got a picture of it.
Here is the view of the field from the house; one of the places Sebastian and I took walks. I love the shadows created by the large white clouds above.
Here is a tree that that marked the end of each walk. We walked toward it and sat in the quiet of its shade.
Close up. I couldn’t help sharing this one too.
I didn’t use auto settings for these photos, but focused on the aperture with the manual setting. My husband would be so proud!
*My mom lives off of a dirt road. Sebastian and I often took the stroller out and walked along the edge of the road. Sometimes cars would pass, but most times it was quiet. There were several dead trees along the way with vines crawling up their trunks. They looked bony white against the crisp blue sky. On one walk my nephew, Logan, called them naked trees. I like that. Each time I would stare up at their branches, arms reaching toward the sky, rooted in the earth below. I took mental pictures and said I’d remember my camera next time. There was a fierce thunderstorm which knocked two of those trees down, split by lightening or wind. And each time, I lhad eft the camera behind. But the memory is still crisp in my mind.
For more photos from this set Free As Trees on flickr. (As always photos of family are protected. Leave a comment if you’d like the link. It’s also posted on my facebook profile if you’d like to check it there.)

One of the places we’ve had to visit was the ophthalmologist on recommendation of the neurologist we saw here. Sebastian’s eyes turn in when he is trying to focus on something close up and once he focuses he straightens them. It doesn’t happen all the time and not with both eyes at the same time. This is called strabismus. The glasses are to strengthen his eye muscles. The great thing is that it has nothing to do with his CP, so it’s fixable. The glasses will strengthen the eye muscles and hopefully he won’t have to wear them anymore. His eyesight is ok, he just needs to get those muscles stronger.
Apparently with babies, sometimes the muscles get strong on their own. Originally the doctor wanted to observe Sebastian for three months, but since we live in Cairo, he decided to put him in glasses right away and then see us in a few weeks time. Sebastian is able to right he eyes when they move in to focus, but the glasses will help him so they don’t move in as the muscle gets stronger. I’m not worried about it because I feel confident that they will get stronger and he won’t need the glasses for long.
But he got his glasses today. And of course he looks as cute as ever. He seems to like them. He isn’t trying to take them off and he actually smiled when we put them on.
My mom took this photo during story time just before bed and I love it. I love his closed mouth smile, with his top teeth showing. I think this is the first picture we have of him with a closed smile. He is doing so awesome. We are seeing little improvements and growth in him every day. More on that to come! But for now some much needed sleeeeeep!
